Blake Griffin the Human Highlight Reel

Is Blake Griffin really as good as Sports Center top 10 plays are making him seem? Something I have wanted to write about for awhile now. First I want to state that I think Blake Griffin is a highly talented player with upside, but is he a great NBA player? If you take his explosive dunking ability away, he does not have much to work with. Many were hoping he would come back after the lockout with an improved jump shot but Griffin’s mid-range jump shot is still decent at best. More or less, I believe his career will consist of huge dunks and highlight reels but no championships or MVP’s.…

Potential NFL Star Robert Griffin III

Robert Griffin III says he will not throw at the NFL scouting combine. I assume the reason for this is because he did not want to be over shadowed by the technical quarterback in Andrew Luck. During the NFL scouting combine he will only be displaying his forty yard dash time and participating in team interviews.  This could play out in Robert Griffin III favor. If RG3 stays away from getting compared to Andrew Luck during these scouting sessions, it may lead to less doubt from critics. For myself I think Robert Griffin III is a highly talented athlete with a quick release and cannon for an arm. But is…

Championship for the New York Knicks? or Just Hype

Can the New York Knicks make a run in the east? I have been playing around with this question for about a week now. It’s easy to get caught up in the aura of Jeremy Lin, but there is more to this team then Lin. They have all the fire power necessary to make a run. Between Jr. Smith, Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudemire this team has the potential to be unstoppable. That’s if they can all work as a team. With all the “Linsanity” surrounding them, the pure emotion and hype may be enough to propel them to the playoffs. Making the playoffs is not enough though for Knick fans.…

Sea Devils Take a Tough Loss to The Pioneers

During the pre-game shoot around the Sea Devils (11-14, 2-7) seemed focused and prepared for Spartanburg Methodist College (21-5, 7-2). The Sea Devils never stopped pushing. It just wasn’t enough as Cape Fear lost by three points, 65-68. “We’re very close and every game that we’ve lost, we have either led or been very close,” Cape Fear head coach Ryan Mantlo said. The team responded well by playing gritty and motivated throughout the game. It was obvious the Sea Devils wanted to establish a post game, with sophomore point guard Rakeem Wilson often finding the open man down low. Through the majority of the second half Spartanburg Methodist had control…

    And then Lin

What a story. If you have not heard the name Jeremy Lin, then you must have been living under a rock for the past week. This guy is amazing. He is stepping up in the most opportune times. I have been watching the NBA for years and have seen great stories and players come and go. But Lin is different; he is creating a buzz that is unheard of. Lin is a hard player not to pull for because of the attitude and effort he shows us every night. Lin is not just a great guy that is becoming the poster boy for the NBA. He is also putting up…

Has Tiger Woods Lost the Touch?

After watching the pebble beach pro-am yesterday, I could not help but wonder what happened to the “old” Tiger Woods. He couldn’t putt the ball in the hole. Tiger seemed frustrated and off balance throughout. “I didn’t hit it as bad as the score indicated, but I putted awful,” Woods said after the round. Even Tiger Woods knows he is playing subpar golf. The first three rounds he didn’t shoot a score over 69 but in the Sunday’s round he put up a dismal 75 knocking him back from 3rd to 15th place. So the question is what?  What can golf fans hope for? Can and will Tiger Woods ever…

CFCC vs. USC Sumter a NJCAA Showdown

Before the game I had a chance to speak with head coach RyanMantlo asking him if there were any different strategies since the last gameagainst USC Sumter, he said “You know I think it’s just the same thing, boilsdown to us playing and executing and just focusing on the small things”. After the National Anthem both teams were fired up and readyfor action Friday night. Cape Fear controlled the pace throughout the firsthalf. The ball movement was impeccable, and they seemed to keep USC Sumter offbalance. The majority of the first half the Sea Devils bench waschanting “defense” and the players really responded holding USC Sumter to only15 points. The…

Austin Rivers Cements Himself in Duke History

What a game, does it get any better than two top ten teams going back and forth trying to win the tobacco road rivalry? The answer is no, no it does not get much better than that. www.flickr.com/photos/deebeephotography/6553177775/ Last night Austin Rivers and the Duke Blue devils put together one of the most amazing comeback’s I have ever witnessed in college basketball.  It was a close game throughout; both teams battled and never gave up. The lights were not too bright for this young man last night, in front of 21,000 screaming Tar Heel fans he had the biggest game of his life. The score was 82-72 with about 2…
